In ancient times Hawaiians used the milo tree in their daily lives. Although too small to be the mast of a sailing vessel, it was used extensively on canoes and sailing ships. The mast of a sailing vessel converts wind energy to motion. Similarly, Kamiloʻiki's MAST (Math And Science Technology) signature, harnesses the energy of young bodies and minds to progress towards productive and fulfilling lives.
The MAST signature supports excellence in math, science and literacy throughout our entire program. Instructional methods include integrated math-science units, problem-based learning, inquiry, critical thinking and integration of technology. Through the MAST signature, curriculum, instruction, and assessment meet a higher level of rigor and relevance in all classrooms. Students value and enjoy the wonderment of math and science as they begin their journey on this lifelong voyage of learning.
