Principal's Message

Dear Kamiloiki Elementary Ohana,

With each new school year, comes new beginnings and new opportunities for change and growth. At our first student assembly, I challenged our students to make a commitment to accomplish three things on a daily basis. I told them that they wouldn’t need any money or adult assistance to fulfill this commitment and that they could accomplish these three things in any location and at any time. The reward for all of their hard work would be a year overflowing with awesome experiences and life-long memories.

Commitment #1: Learn something new every day.

“Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” - Thomas Huxley

It doesn’t matter if you learn something new in a classroom or on a sports field, on a Monday or on a Sunday. Just make a commitment to stretch and expand your mind with new experiences every chance you get.

Commitment #2: Take great care of yourself and those around you.

“Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have.” - Margaret Mead

Eat healthy and be active, so that way you can have the strength and energy to connect with those around you. In other words, be caring and fill the lives of others with laughter, love and happiness.

Commitment #3: Have fun.

“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.” - Dr. Seuss

Enjoy everything that you do and enjoy the people around you. Your life is filled with millions of opportunities to have fun, so take advantage of each and every one of them.

So there you have it…three simple, yet powerful actions to live by. May I challenge you to be a risk-taker and join our students in making a commitment to accomplishing these things every day. Come and be a part of our journey, as our students strive to make positive contributions within our community and the world beyond.

Thank you for your commitment and support to our students and our school.

~Mr. Jason Yoshimoto
