Why Students Need to Take a Foreign Language
As part of our journey to become an IB authorized school, we need to meet IB's requirement of providing students with instruction in another language to help promote international-mindedness.
The Kaiser Complex has chosen to give our elementary students a strong foundation in Mandarin. At Kamilo`iki, our weekly Mandarin instruction focuses on introducing the culture, singing, conversation and writing.
When our students continue on to Niu Valley, they either choose to continue in Mandarin or Japanese. The Mandarin background still helps for learning Japanese. For example, the Chinese and Japanese kanji writing & meanings are similar, they support each other.
